Dear Flower Club Members,

Its one month away! As we approach the beauty and warmth brought to us by the summer season, it’s time to celebrate the upcoming solstice. This time of year brings a burst of colors and fragrances, but it also presents quite the challenges for keeping your cut flowers fresh and beautiful. Let’s look at how we can make our flowers last during the warmer months.

Summer and the Solstice

With summer’s arrival and the solstice marking the longest day of the year, our local growers are in full bloom. However, the higher temperatures can be tough on cut flowers, causing them to wilt faster. Don’t worry! We have some handy tips to help your flowers stay fresh for as long as possible.

Quick Tips for Flower Care

1. Keep Out of Direct Sunlight: Place your flower arrangements away from windows and direct sunlight to prevent overheating and wilting.

2.Switch Out the Water: Change the water in your vases every couple of days to keep it clean and free from bacteria that can shorten the life of your flowers. The more often the better.

3. Avoid Direct Air Conditioning: Drafts from air conditioning (or even heaters during winter) can dry out your flowers. Ensure they are placed in a cool spot but not directly under a vent.

4. Buy unbloomed flowers: Lily’s, Gladiolas, Tuberose, Carnations, Roses, ect. These are all flowers that need time to open. The tighter you get them, the longer they will last you.

By following these simple tips, you can enjoy the beauty of your flowers for longer, even during the hottest days of summer.

Upcoming Holidays and Celebrations

As always, there are plenty of occasions to celebrate with flowers this summer. Here are a few dates to keep in mind:

– Trinity Sunday (June 16th): Shoutout to all the churches in San Diego who get their flowers from us. We love seeing the elaborate altars you all put together!

– Memorial Day (May 27th): A special thank you to all our Veterans out there, who put themselves on the line for our safety. So many people get red, white and blue bouquets from us and it’s wonderful.

– Pride Month (June): Starting on the first of June, Pride Month is a time to celebrate love, diversity, and inclusivity. Bright, rainbow-colored arrangements are perfect for showing support.

– Father’s Day (June 16th): As mentioned in our previous newsletter, Father’s Day is a wonderful opportunity to gift the fathers in our lives with some nice houseplants to spruce up the place.

Thank you for being a valued member of the Flower Club. We’re here to support you with the freshest flowers and the best supplies for all your floral adventures this summer.
